Where the Blind Work

Where the Blind Work is a joint project between the NFB Writers' Division and the National Federation of the Blind Jernigan Institute to catalogue the number and type of jobs blind individuals are doing to provide to blind individuals, employers, and blindness professionals information about the variety of jobs now being successfully done by blind people.

What kind of work are blind people doing? How do they do it? Why should employers hire a blind person? What careers are YOU interested in pursuing?

Blind people are working in a wide variety of jobs doing work that people mistakenly believe require sight. Blind students are often "tracked" into certain fields, whether they are interested in them or not. Within the Where the Blind Work Archive, you will find written personal accounts of the various types of employment that the blind are engaged in, how they do it, how does a person enter the field, and what positive influences helped the person to achieve their goal.

Telephone Gatherings

One of the best services the division offers its members, is a chance to meet other members, talk about how each of us work at our craft, and learn by interacting with guest speakers. This happens through our monthly telephone gathering. Most months we have a guest speaker; which could be a publisher, an editor, an author, a president of another NFB division, and more. These gatherings are held the last Sunday of the month. We use a free conference call service. A notice goes out on our mailing list STYLIST and to all members that we have an email address for.
