2012 ADULT WRITING CONTEST GUIDELINESThe annual adult writing contest sponsored by the Writers’ Division of the NFB, 2012, is open January 1 to April 1. The categories are- poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and stories for youth. The contest is open to all entrants eighteen years and over. All contest winners will be announced at the Writers’ Division business meeting during the NFB national convention to be held in Dallas, Texas, the first week of July, 2012. Additionally, shortly after the adjournment of convention, the winners will appear on the Writers’ Division Website, www.nfb-writers-division.net There may be up to 3 prize winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd) and 1 or more honorable mentions. A prize winning entrie may be published within the Writers’ Division’s magazine, “Slate & Style.” PRIZESAdult contest winners will receive $100 for first place, $50 for second place, and $25 for third place. Contest winners will receive complimentary copies of the issue of “Slate & Style” in which their entries appear (if they are not already subscribed). SUBMISSION GUIDELINESAdults are required to submit all poetry, fiction and non-fiction entries as attachments to an E-mail message. The attachments should be in either Microsoft Word (doc) or Rich Text Format “rtf” format. Fiction and non-fiction entries should be written in a normal prose style, with each paragraph indented 0.5 inches, lines are single spaced, and having a 14 point font of Aerial, regular. (No hard copy submissions will be accepted.) COVER LETTERAlong with your entry or entries, include a cover letter providing your name, mailing address, phone number, and E-mail address. List the titles of all stories or poems submitted. In a separate paragraph, mention the category of entry, e.g., “adult fiction.” State your method of payment for the entry fee (check or Pay Pal). Finally, the cover letter could be your email message and/or a separate document attached along with your submissions. ENTRY REQUIREMENTSWe will consider only unpublished original entries. Adult short fiction stories and/or non-fiction submissions cannot be more than 3,000 words in length. And, adult poetry cannot be more than 36 lines. Non-fiction entries should be either a memoir or personal essay. Authors of either poetry and/or fiction are encouraged to submit multiple pieces.
